ZOVIRAX is an antiviral medicine that is used for the treatment of the herpes simplex virus (HSV) in adults and children. It is a prescription medicine to stop the spread of the virus. ZOVIRAX is not recommended for use during pregnancy, but during breastfeeding.
It is also used to treat cold sores caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1).
This medicine can only be used if prescribed by a doctor. Your doctor will decide if this medicine is suitable for you.
The recommended dose of ZOVIRAX is one 5 gm oral dose (containing 10mg of the active substance).
Take a double dose of ZOVIRAX with food to make up for the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Do not take a double dose of ZOVIRAX without discussing it with your doctor.
Do not take ZOVIRAX for more than 5 days. You may require hospitalization if you have a painful, persistent or recurrent herpes infection.
